DENVER, March 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Chrysler LLC's sales throughout the Midwest, the Rockies and the plains of America posted a 31.5 percent retail sales increase over last month. The region exceeded the overall corporate sales performance, which was also strong in February. Chrysler LLC nationwide saw an increase in retail industry marketshare from 9.6 percent to 11 percent this month and outpaced the industry retail sales by 9 percent.

"It is great to see customers in the many small towns and cities in our region put their faith in Chrysler. We are a proud American company that is working hard everyday to deliver improved quality, better fuel efficiency and the best value in the marketplace," said Fred Diaz, Director of the Denver Business Center, Chrysler LLC.

Nationwide, for the first time since 2006 and only the second time in history, Chrysler LLC outsold Ford Motor Co., placing Chrysler LLC in the top three volume automotive manufacturers in the United States.

"Together with our strong Chrysler, Jeep(R) and Dodge dealer partners, we are able to help our customers with a great product value during these challenging economic times," said Diaz.

Strong performers in February (vs. January sales) for the Denver Business Center include:

  • The Jeep Wrangler up 28 percent nationwide and 35 percent regionally
  • The all-new, award winning Dodge Ram up 5.2 percent in the region
  • The entire Chrysler line-up of 300C, Aspen, Sebring and Town & Country up 65.4 percent regionally
  • With best in class fuel economy, the Dodge Journey up 66.1 percent in the region

"Overall, our retail sales position in February can be attributed to an increase in awareness of our Employee Pricing Plus Plus program. It truly gives our dealers a message that resonates with consumers. We will continue this program in March. In addition, March is Dodge Truck Month, and we will add the availability of 'no charge HEMI(R) on the Ram 1500,'" said Steven Landry, Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Service and Parts.

Chrysler LLC's Denver Business Center represents dealerships in 14 states including: Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minneapolis, Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Kansas and Missouri.

Refined 5.7-liter HEMI Delivers Improved Fuel Economy, Even More Power and Torque

  • All-new 5.7-liter HEMI® engine recognized by Wardâ??s for powertrain excellence
  • Sixth â??10 Best Engine Awardâ?? for 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine
  • Expanded utilization of Chryslerâ??s fuel-saving Multi-displacement System (MDS) operation
  • More power: as much as 390 horsepower
  • More torque: as much as 410 lb.-ft. of torque

Auburn Hills, Mich., Jan 7, 2009 - Now in its second generation, the legendary 5.7-liter HEMI® V-8 engine has once again earned a place on Wardâ??s distinguished â??2009 10 Best Enginesâ?? list. Relentlessly delivering powertrain excellence, Chrysler LLC has earned Wardâ??s "10 Best" award six times in the last seven years with the iconic 5.7-liter HEMI engine.

"The HEMI earns the honor not on pure emotion or brute force but with advanced new technology such as variable valve timing, which allows cruising in four-cylinder mode about 40 percent of the time, which is twice as much as the previous-generation Multi-Displacement System cylinder-deactivation system," said Tom Murphy â?? Executive Director of Wardâ??s AutoWorld magazine. "A number of Wardâ??s testers managed to top 19 mpg (12.3 L/100 km) with the HEMI, putting it in line with certain premium V-6s tested."

With improved Multi-Displacement System (MDS) technology for increased fuel efficiency, added refinement and more power, the all-new 2009 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine delivers world-class performance and technology in nine Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge vehicles. The 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine with MDS technology is available on 2009 Chrysler 300C, Chrysler Aspen, Jeep® Grand Cherokee, Jeep Commander, Dodge Charger, Dodge Durango, Dodge Ram Heavy Duty series and the all-new 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 and Dodge Challenger.

â??We are honored to have our iconic HEMI engine recognized by Ward's for a sixth time,â?? said Bob Lee, Vice President â?? Powertrain Product Engineering Team, Chrysler LLC. â??HEMI is synonymous with performance, and now â?? thanks to VVT, expanded four-cylinder mode in our MDS system, and a host of other technologies â?? Chryslerâ??s new 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine delivers more fuel efficiency and refinement, along with even more power.â??

While the new 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine maintains the key architecture that makes â??HEMIâ?? synonymous with â??performance,â?? Chrysler powertrain engineers improved engine breathing and added new technologies, including Variable Valve Timing (VVT), that substantially improve fuel economy and refinement.

The HEMIâ??s new VVT improves fuel economy in two ways. First, it reduces the engineâ??s pumping work by closing the intake valve later. Second, it increases the expansion process of the combustion event. This allows more work to be transferred to the crankshaft instead of being rejected out of the exhaust port as heat. Essentially, VVT improves engine breathing, which improves engine efficiency and power.

Dodgeâ??s fuel-saving MDS system seamlessly alternates between smooth, high-fuel-economy four-cylinder mode when less power is needed, and V-8 mode when more power from the new 5.7-liter HEMI engine is in demand. This optimizes fuel economy when V-8 power is not required, without sacrificing vehicle performance or capability.

An expanded MDS operating range in the new-for-2009 HEMI will allow customers to realize an even-greater fuel economy benefit. Chrysler estimates that since its inception of MDS in 2005, more than 100 million gallons of gasoline have been saved, along with reduced carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of close to one million

When MDS is operating, it is indicated by a â??Fuel Saverâ?? readout in the vehicles Electronic Vehicle Information Center.

In addition to VVT and expanded MDS operating range, the HEMIâ??s fuel economy and performance improvements result from an increased compression ratio, an active intake manifold with long runners for low-end torque and short runners for high-rpm power, improved cylinder head port flow efficiency, and reduced restriction exhaust and induction systems.

Numerous other hardware upgrades were implemented to build on the quality, reliability and durability reputation of the HEMI engine. These include crankshaft structural upgrades, a dual-mass crankshaft damper, new piston design, improved valve-spring design and oil pump capacity increase for VVT.

The new 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine is manufactured at the Saltillo Engine Plant in Saltillo, Mexico.

Participation with "America Supports You" extends decades of Chrysler support to the military

Auburn Hills, Mich., Feb 26, 2008 - Chrysler LLC announces it will join America Supports You (ASY), a Department of Defense program connecting non-profit groups with military men and women and their families. The relationship with America Supports You continues Chryslerâ??s decades-long legacy of support for the military with its products and through morale-building activities.

"The mission of America Supports You merges perfectly with the legacy Chrysler has of supporting the military and their families for decades," said Bob Nardelli, Chrysler LLC Chairman and CEO. "Beginning with our Jeep® products carrying troops in World War II and continuing with our initiatives today, Chrysler has remained committed to the well-being of the men and women who wear the uniform and their families."

Chrysler recently announced a partnership with the Freedom Calls Foundation, an ASY homefront group. Its mission is to connect troops deployed in Iraq and their families in the United States through video conferencing. Chrysler has opened its video conferencing infrastructure at the Company's Auburn Hills, Mich., headquarters so families can schedule time to talk to their loved ones via video conferencing.

The company also supports ASY member Operation Gratitude in their mission to lift troop morale through the delivery of care packages filled with items from citizens in the U.S. More than 1,800 Jeep dealers across the country opened their dealerships and became "drop zones" for citizens to leave donation items that were then shipped to Operation Gratitude's headquarters in California. Included for the recipients of the 250,000th and 300,000th packages were the keys to brand new Jeep Libertys. Spc. Alfonso Sanchez received the 250,000th package and Spc. Michael Gallagher received the 300,000th package.

"We're so pleased to have Chrysler as part of America Supports You," says Allison Barber, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense. "The company's commitment to support troops overseas and their families here at home highlights its long history of caring for our military members."

As troops transition out of military service, many are looking for career opportunities that provide growth, acceptable wages and stability. Working in conjunction with our 3,600 Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge dealers, Chrysler will soon begin offering military leaving the service the opportunity to be connected to one of our dealerships and considered for employment at a dealership location.

In its 83-year history, Chrysler has supported the military in many ways, including:

  • Production of Jeep vehicles that were the primary transportation of troops beginning prior to World War II (1940 - 1970)

  • Supplying Dodge products to the military

  • Supporting the war effort through production of Sherman tanks (1941)

  • Support of the annual Army-Navy football game

  • Vehicle purchase discount incentive of $500 on Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep products

  • Annual monetary donation to U.S. Marines Toys for Tots program

  • Support towards the construction of the World War II Memorial, Washington, D.C.

  • Financial support of the U.S. Military Academy

  • Financial support of the Air Force Academy

  • Financial support of the U.S. Naval Academy

  • Financial support of the United Service Organizations (USO)

  • Donation of Jeep vehicles to selected Operation Gratitude package recipients
